Citizen Comments:
Scott Delawder addressed the Commission regarding some maintenance items. He stated there was a
need for locks on hangar doors. There was a discussion on the future replacement of the doors. Mr.
Delawder requested the City assist in rolling the grass runway and the need to fill holes in the grass runway
and bring in dirt to fill a trench left behind by electrical work. Mr. Delawder also mentioned that there was
a skunk problem that needed addressed. Bill Hurley asked if the light on the east end of the hangar had
been fixed, and it was stated that the light issue had been addressed.
Updates and Reports:
• Phillip Wolford stated that things were on track for the Stearman Fly-In. A discussion was had on
whether a Special Event request needed to be submitted to IDOT for the Stearman event. Aaron Gavin
stated that he would look into it and whether that had been submitted in the past.
• Aaron Gavin provided an update on the Taxiway B Resurfacing project. Brandt Construction is
currently performing patching work and anticipates that paving work will start next week.
• Jeff Olson was not present at the meeting to provide an update on Airport Capital Projects. Aaron
Gavin updated the Commission based on information received from Jeff Olson prior to the meeting.
The fuel farm project is moving forward and Jeff is submitting a 35% engineering report to IDOT soon.
There are concerns about the location for the fuel tank suggested by Phillip Wolford due to the side
slopes of the runway and an airspace penetration. Jeff Olson is going to discuss the location with the
State to see if they would approve it. Jeff is submitting the environmental approvals for the fuel
project.
New Business:
• A Galesburg City Council tour of the airport was discussed. It was agreed that inviting the City Council
members for a tour was a good idea. A presentation could be done by JetBlue as well as a tour of the
infrastructure and a presentation on upcoming capital projects and the importance of the airport to
economic development could be discussed. Friday, September 1st at 9 a.m. was decided as a possible
date and time for the tour.
General Discussion of other Airport Related Topics:
• David Carlton inquired about the status of the electric gate. Don Miles stated that he had gotten a
quote and the work would be completed prior to the Stearman Fly-In
• Ken Springer asked if some of the maintenance items discussed in the citizen comments could be
added into the airport budget for 2024. Aaron Gavin stated that he would look into adding them in.
• Scott Delawder suggested that a shelter be constructed on the airport property for the community
and airport user to use for events and for visiting the airport. Phillip Wolford mentioned also that
camping spots with water and electrical would be beneficial at the airport, especially during the
Stearman Fly-In.
Adjournment:
The meeting adjourned at 4:00 pm on a motion by Springer/Wolford that passed unanimously.
