Members Present: King, Bledsoe, Grimes, McKillip, Wallace, Kelley and Thierry McKillip moved to aapprove minutes from last meeting, seconded by Grimes. Minutes approved 6:43pm. Also Present: Jessica Pease Discussed access to actual conference participants. Intro: Community Relations by Christina King ● Request City to provide direction on how to proceed as a commission ● City sponsor: Peter Swartzman ● Email letter of support to NAACP ● Mayor refused to bring a vote regarding Systemic Racism and requested proof of Discussion as to how to best address with Mayor Pritchard ● Involved the city council by getting their commitment or not on the record ● Do local research on the problem of systemic racism ● Review mayoral candidates most likely to support racism issues identified locally. McKillip, Thierry and King agreed to develop action items to move forward with the process Old Business: Reviewed Fair Housing Letter to Commission: Action items ● Review complaints filed in the community ● Next step once complete ● Racism ● Address community issues with racism ● Non-binding letter/email to landlords regarding discrimination Discussion: Executive order ● Cannot address issues of diversity due to executive order ● Federal mandates may be aligned with business, i.e. grants, HUD etc. ● ACLU is putting forth a law suite ● How does this affect this commission? McKillip made a motion to adjourn at 7:57pm, Grimes seconded.
