Members Present: King, Grimes, Donaldson, McKillip, Wallace Ex-officio Members: Pease Grimes moved to accept November and December minutes, second Wallace. Commission member remarks ● King thanked everyone for their dedication and attendance. ● King wanted to discuss options for the commission to partner for events during the year so that we can get them scheduled. ○ Discussion around training for implicit bias for city employees. King agreed to reach out to city employees to determine interest for this type of training. ○ Grimes suggested that the commission support spreading the message about open COVID vaccinations. Grimes will seek out additional information regarding what is needed to support this cause. McKillip makes a motion that the CRC offers to support the community in educating about the vacation. King seconds, motion passed. ○ McKillip recommended that we research and identify where systemic racism occurs in Galesburg and how it can be addressed. Suggested that it be represented as an infographic so that it can be easily understood by all. Donaldson will work on infographics once information is received from McKillip. ○ Wallace would like to address the increase in gun violence in our community. McKillip suggested that we ask for more information from the police department and consider holding a town hall meeting to address the concern. Donaldson asked that the commission consider education around community violence as a whole in addition to gun violence. King to reach out to Chief Idle. ○ Discussion around the need to support community members who have difficulty covering the cost of their utilities. Grimes reported concerns with how to maintain an ongoing fund. King plans to seek out additional information regarding resources currently in place and what can be done. Public Comment ● None McKillip made a motion to adjourn at 7:06pm, Donaldson seconded.
