HomeMy WebLinkAboutF & P Meeting Minutes 06152020City of Galesburg Board of Fire and Police Commission • Public Safety Building 150 South Broad Street • Galesburg, IL 61401 • 309/345-3729 • www.ci.galesburg.il.us City of Galesburg Operating Under Council – Manager Government Since 1957 Board of Fire and Police Commissioners TO: Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Chairman Robert Fulton, Commissioner Thomas Peters, Commissioner Diane VanHootegem FROM: Amanda Jennings, Secretary II DATE: June 22, 2020 SUBJECT: June 15, 2020 Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Meeting Minutes The regular meeting of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners was called to order by Chairman Robert Fulton on Monday, June 15, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the Public Safety Building EOC/Auditorium, 150 South Broad Street, Galesburg, Illinois. Those present were: Chairman Robert Fulton, Commissioner Thomas Peters, Commissioner Diane VanHootegem, Fire Chief Randy Hovind, Police Chief Russell Idle, Fire Deputy Chief Brad Stevenson, Secretaries Jenni Moser and Amanda Jennings Public Citizen Comment None Approve Commissioner Peters motioned to approve the minutes of the April 20, 2020 regular meeting. Commissioner VanHootegem seconded the motion. All were in favor. Correspondence Four certified police applications were submitted to the Board. Amanda advised 25 entry level police applications have been received so far. Old Business Updates to the Rules and Regulations were discussed. The wording “full time” under the police lateral requirement will be removed. Additional discussion was held on the wording for the basic EMT requirement for Firefighters. It was determined to leave it as is. Any certification higher than basic will also receive extra points. Commissioner Peters motioned to approve the updates to the Board’s Rules and Regulations. Commissioner VanHootegem seconded. Motion approved. The written test for the Fire Battalion Chief promotional testing will take place on Friday, June 26, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. in the Public Safety Building EOC/Auditorium. Further discussion was held on the number of candidates testing that will make the list and how to make the process better. Police entry level testing is this Saturday, June 20th at 9:00 a.m. Chairman Fulton mentioned each candidate already received information in their packet on the P.O.W.E.R. Test requirements. This will also be explained at orientation. Chief Idle updated the Commission on personnel status. He advised Lt. Bradford and Deputy Chief Riggs will be retiring in August. There will be a need to hire 3 candidates immediately. Chief also advised the Commission will be part of the interview process for selecting the next Deputy Chief and he will provide more details when it is available. One of their new hires resigned. The other finished the academy but has two classes to finish in the next two weeks. He will also need to obtain EMT certification. Chief advised they will not need to hire again until this Fall. New Business Fire entry level testing was discussed. Jenni provided a tentative schedule. Deputy Chief Stevenson mentioned previous difficulty with recruiting volunteers to assist. Saturday, September 26, 2020 was set for the written exam and agility. It was reminded to request GHAS have personnel be present. Adjournment There being no further business, a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Commissioner Peters and seconded by Commissioner VanHootegem. Meeting adjourned at 10:35 a.m. The next regular scheduled meeting will take place on Monday, August 17, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the Administrative Conference Room, City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois.
