SUBJECT: August 18, 2021 Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Meeting Minutes
The regular meeting of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners was called to order by Chairman Robert Fulton
on Wednesday August 18, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.
Those present in person were: Chairman Robert Fulton, Commissioner Diane VanHootegem, Commissioner Thomas Peters,
Police Chief Russell Idle, Fire Deputy Chief John Seitz, City Attorney Brad Nolden, Secretaries Jenni Moser, Amanda
Jennings, and Courtney LaFollette.

None
Approve
Commissioner VanHootegem motioned to approve the minutes of the June 17, 2021 regular meeting. Commissioner
Peters seconded the motion. Minutes approved.
Correspondence
None
Old Business
Chief Idle advised 3 officers will be sworn in next month. Due to potential retirements within the next few months, there
may be another opening available in January. Officer Howard and Officer Trulson will be released from training within
the next few weeks.
Fire Deputy Chief Seitz stated that 1 firefighter will be sworn in on September 7th and will be heading to the academy on
the 13th. Firefighters Cervantez and Wells are coming up on their 6-month training exam.
The topic of diversity was revisited. All commissioners agree that residency preference points should be included,
however, preference points should not minimize all the other things that are done to develop the list of candidates. Further
discussion was held.
New Business
The current Police Entry list has been exhausted. Discussion was held regarding how remaining candidates will interfile to
the new list. Candidates may go straight to PTI with the knowledge of what will be required to complete the Power Test if
Knox is not available.

The written test for entry level candidates will be held on October 2nd with interviews to follow on October 14th and 15th
(tentatively).
A swear-in ceremony will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. for 3 Police Officers and 1 Firefighter.
Adjournment
There being no further business, a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Commissioner Peters and seconded by
Commissioner VanHootegem. Meeting adjourned at 10:33 a.m.
The next regular scheduled meeting will take place on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the
Erickson Conference Room, City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois.
