SUBJECT: August 15, 2022 Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Meeting Minutes
The regular meeting of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners was called to order by Chairman Robert Fulton
on Monday, August 15, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
Those present in person were: Chairman Robert Fulton, Commissioner Thomas Peters, City Attorney Bradley Nolden,
Police Chief Russell Idle, Fire Chief Randy Hovind, Secretaries Jenni Moser, Amanda Jennings and Courtney LaFollette.

Approve
Commissioner Peters motioned to approve the minutes of the June 27, 2022 regular meeting. Chairman Fulton seconded
the motion. Minutes approved.
Correspondence
None
Old Business
Chief Hovind advised there have only been 7 applicants so far with the study groups and training opportunities that have
been made available. Discussion was held regarding advertising to increase the potential for applicants as well as the
issues regarding the comparable agencies in our area. Firefighter Stevenson is doing well and work continues on getting
the Brooks Street Station unisex accessible.
Chief Idle advised with the 2 recent hires and 1 leaving soon the department is currently down 7 officers. Once the new
list of candidates is made one from the current list who took a pass will be eligible to be added to the new list. A sign on
bonus and stipend for moving expenses is set to go before the council this evening. A meeting will also be held regarding
the transition to 12-hour shifts.
New Business
The Police Promotional written exam will be held Tuesday, August 30th at 6:00 p.m. with interviews to follow on
September 6. Currently there will be 4 Lieutenants and 12 Sergeants testing.
Police Entry level testing will be held September 24 with interviews to follow on October 10th and 11th.
Fire Entry Level testing will be held on September 17th with interviews to follow on September 27th and 28th (tentatively).
Further discussion was held regarding taking the power test before being sent to PTI.

There being no further business, a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Commissioner Peters and seconded by
Chairman Fulton. Meeting adjourned at 10:25 a.m.
The next regular scheduled meeting will take place on Monday, October 10 at 11:30 a.m. in the
Administrative Conference Room, City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois.
