HomeMy WebLinkAboutF&P Meeting Minutes 041524 BOARD OF FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION Operating Under Council – Manager Government Since 1957 City of Galesburg Board of Fire and Police Commissioners 150 South Broad Street • Galesburg, IL 61401 • 309.345.3729 • www.ci.galesburg.il.us TO: Thomas Peters, Chairman, Commissioner Diane VanHootegem and Commissioner Bernie Cowan FROM: Jenna Hunt, Public Safety Clerk DATE: April 16, 2024 SUBJECT: April 15, 2024 Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Meeting Minutes The regular meeting of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners was called to order by Chairman Thomas Peters on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 10:02 a.m. Those present in person were: Chairman Thomas Peters, Commissioner Diane VanHootegem, Commissioner Robert Fulton, Police Chief Police Russell Idle, Police Deputy Chief Kevin Legate, Fire Chief Randy Hovind, Fire Captain Joe Brignall, Secretaries Amanda Jennings, Jenna Hunt, and Bernie Cowan. Cowan will be sworn in as a commissioner after this meeting. Public Forum (Citizen Comments) None Approve Commissioner VanHootegem motioned to approve the minutes of the February 19, 2024 regular meeting. Commissioner Fulton seconded. Motion carried. Correspondence Police received a lateral application for an applicant who was deemed unqualified. Amanda will send a notification to the applicant. Old Business Fire department is currently going through the caption promotion testing cycle. Interviews went well, and the next step will be the assessment centers later this week. The final list will be posted on May 10th. Chief Hovind noted that everything else within the department is going well. Police department will be swearing in an officer on April 29th, there were supposed to be two officers but the other candidate went to a department closer to their hometown. That department’s commission board called asking our board to send the candidate’s tests and scores, but Chairman Peters informed them that we are not allowed to release that information. There will be another testing cycle starting at the end of the month. Chief Idle noted that the department is looking at possibly looking at hiring the first candidate on the final eligibility list for the academy starting in September. New Business Commissioner Fulton motioned for Chairman Peters to remain the chairman. Commissioner VanHootegem seconded the motion. Motion approved. Chairman Peters seconded the motion. Motion approved. ILFPCA Seminar will be attended by Chairman Peters and Commissioner Cowan. The seminar will be in Bloomington this year. Chairman Peters is going to ask other commissioners and attorneys at the seminar about the POWER test not being allowed as a pre-requisite for employment during the testing process. Today is Commissioner Fulton’s last meeting. Thank you, Commissioner Fulton, for your service over the years, and we hope you enjoy your retirement. Adjournment There being no further business, a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Commissioner Fulton and seconded by Commissioner VanHootegem.
