SUBJECT: October 21, 2024 Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Meeting Minutes
The regular meeting of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners was called to order by Chairman
Thomas Peters on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 10:10 a.m.
Those present in person were: Chairman Thomas Peters, Commissioner Diane VanHootegem, Police
Chief Police Russell Idle, Police Deputy Chief Kevin Legate, Fire Chief Randy Hovind, Secretaries Jenni
Moser, and Jenna Hunt.
Public Forum (Citizen Comments)
None
Approve
Commissioner VanHootegem motioned to approve the minutes of the June 17, 2024 regular meeting.
Chairman Peters seconded. Motion carried.
Correspondence
None
Old Business
Police department has sent two offer letters out for patrol officers. We have heard back from one
candidate, but not the other. The next candidate on the list is currently going through the background
process as a precaution. The two candidates will be sworn in on December 30, 2024, and will leave for
academy on January 5, 2025. The department will be losing one officer in January to go to another
agency, and there will be a retirement in June 2025.
Fire department has a few firefighters on leave and/or light duty currently. They had one retirement and
had one firefighter resign last month. They are hoping to hire two or three candidates in Spring 2025 for
the spring academy.
New Business
Police department will swear in two patrol officers on December 30, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at City Council
Chambers.
Commissioner VanHootegem announced that she will retire from the board on June 1, 2025.

Adjournment
There being no further business, a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Commissioner
VanHootegem and seconded by Chairman Peters. Meeting adjourned at 10:15 a.m.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 16, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in Chief Idle’s Office,
Public Safety Building, 150 South Broad Street, Galesburg, Illinois
