Golf Advisory Commission Minutes, July 28, 2020
City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois
Meeting was called to order at 4:01 P.M.
Roll Call: Present: Members: Dave Selkirk, Steve Cheesman, Paul Sandborg, Jerry
Reynolds, Greenskeeper Matt Miles, Park Superintendent Don Miles, Head Golf
Professional Bryan Luedtke, Director of Parks & Recreation Tony Oligney-Estill
Absent: Rodney Bunch
Minutes of June 23, 2020 meeting were approved with one correction of adding Paul Sandborg
to the Roll Call.
Greenkeeper Report:
Greenskeeper Matt Miles reported:
● Minor tree damage and removal from storms was performed over the past month.
● Staff cold patched cart paths and washed out areas in the parking lot and road.
● Staff is maintaining the turf grass from the heat and stress of play as best they can.
● Staff is doing its best to keep up with golf course maintenance with the reduced staff this
year.
Report was reviewed and accepted.
Golf Professional Report:
Head Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke reported:
● June Golf
o Up 182 paying rounds for the month
o Up $15,000 in total revenue for the month
o Food and Beverage was down slightly due to COVID
o Merchandise was up slightly compared to last year
● Money-Ball
o 18 foursomes participated
o Very good turnout on a great day
o $720 in merchandise credit paid out
● Golf Outing Update
o Lion’s Club cancelled due to COVID
o Elks Club cancelled due to COVID
o GHS Invitational?
o GHS Regional?
o Staff planning on adding the “Senior Super-Ball” in August
o Staff planning on adding the “Shamble” in September
● New Events for 2020

o Minor – 7, down 7 from 2019
o Junior – 13, up 6 from 2019
o Young Adult – 6, down 3 2019
o First Time Season Pass – 40, up 9 from 2019
o Default – 25, up 10 from 2019
• Total cards sold through 7/27/2020. The amount listed for 2019 is for the entire year of
2019.
o 10 Round (9 holes) – 8, same as 2019
o 10 Round (18 holes) – 10, down 6 from 2019
o 20 Round – 0, down 15 from 2019
o Default – 0, down 1 from 2019
Report was reviewed and accepted.
Old Business:
● The patio renovation is complete. All that is left is for staff to purchase new furniture. Staff is
having difficulties as the original furniture they ordered is now on backorder and no longer
being made. Staff is looking for new furniture to order.
● Staff met with Klingner to review the drainage issues on various holes on the course. Staff
added additional areas that need work. Klingner updated its documents and have sent the
updated documents to the City for review.
● Tony brought information related to Appointments to Municipal Boards and Commissions;
Terms of Office. The Code says that Commissioners shall attend, at a minimum, 75% of the
meetings the Commission has each year. One Commissioner has not met this requirement.
The Commission agreed to have Tony contact this Commissioner to see what this
Commissioner’s status is moving forward.
New Business:
● Commissioner Sandborg asked how the new scooter rentals are going. Tony commented that
through June 30th, 32 paid rentals have taken place. Bryan thought there were over 100
rentals up to the point of the meeting. Tony will get the number of rentals through July and
bring that to the August meeting.
● Bryan mentioned that minimum wage went up on July 1st and all his part time staff received
there raise.

● Bryan mentioned that he thought he would need to hire additional part time staff as he would
be losing several of his existing staff back to college and to fall high school athletics. As it
looks like fall high school athletics

Next Golf Commission Meeting will be on August 25, 2020 at 4:00 P.M.
