Roll Call: Present: Members: David Selkirk, Paul Sandborg, Jerry Reynolds, Steve Cheesman, Rodney Bunch, Greenkeeper Matt Miles, Head Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke, Park Superintendent Don Miles Absent: Parks and Recreation Director Tony Oligney-Estill, Minutes of August 25, 2020 meeting were approved. Greenkeeper Report: Greenkeeper Matt Miles reported: For September; o Greens were aerified with solid tines. Fertilizers and sand were applied and brushed into the holes. They have since been rolled several times to smooth them out. o The practice green was aerified with coring tines as a trial run for next season. The cores were broken up and the remaining sand was worked back into the holes. o The fairways and approaches have been gone over with our Bannerman tractor attachment with long slicing tines in order to promote water infiltration and deep fall root growth. o Plans to core aerate the tees, approaches, and possibly the fairways will follow in the coming weeks this fall. For October; o Fall fertilizer was applied to the tees and fairways o Approaches and tees were cored aerified. The plugs were broken up and drug in. o An irrigation pipe break was repaired next to #11 green. o Fall leaf blowing and mulching is underway. Report was reviewed and accepted. Golf Professional Report Head Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke reported: For September; • August Golf o Up 901 rounds for the month o Up $18,000.00 in total revenue for the month o F&B up $2,300.00/ Merchandise up slightly o Range ball sales were almost double from the previous year • Senior Only “Super-Ball” o 21 foursomes o Beautiful day/ tremendous turnout CITY OF GALESBURG Parks and Recreation Department Operating Under Council – Manager Government Since 1957 _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Page 2 of 3 o $840.00 in merchandise credit paid out o New foursome of winners/ No repeat winners in this event • CUBS vs. CARDS o 75 players participated o Cloudy, dreary, rainy day o $750.00 in merchandise credit paid out o We had a few groups drop out, but overall a tremendous turnout o New winners this year who have never played in it before • Golf Outing Update o GPSF Golf Outing/ 53 players o Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce/ 88 players o Bernardi Brothers Mini-Shotgun/ 20 players o The Laurel Greens “Two man Best-Ball” ??? o Bunker Links “Shamble” ??? For October; • September Golf; o Up 1,039 rounds for the month o Up $25,000.00 in total revenue for the month o F&B up $5,000.00/ Merchandise up $800 o Range ball sales over double from the previous year • Year End Super Ball o 60 players participated o 48 players in 2019/ 25% increase in participation o Slight drizzle but turned out to be a fun day • All City Best ball o 25 teams participated/ 27 participated in 2019 o Beautiful day with lots of positive comments about the golf course, golf operation, new patio, and clubhouse updates, etc. • Fireman Outing o “Fill the Boot” was cancelled/ This year was a substitute golf outing o 98 players participated o No food served inside, so no gathering inside o Most players hung out on the patio afterward • Morning Rotary Speech o Gave a speech to the Morning Rotary with an update on the 2020 season and all of the changes we went through Report was reviewed and accepted. Old Business: • Punch Card rates were discussed and approved for 2021. It was given to him as a gift before all of the COVID restrictions were inacted and he had not used any rounds on it this year. All members agreed to the extention. • Member Reynolds asked about trap rakes next year. Greenkeeper Miles explained that the rakes are not out due to COVID-019 regulations. He also asked about converting the sand traps into grass traps. Greenkeeper Miles explained that in future years the idea could be looked into, as the traps age and require more maintenance. • Member Cheesman wanted to commend all golf course staff for doing such a tremendous job dealing with all of the COVID issues they had endured this season. • Member Selkirk gave head Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke a congratulations for qualifying for and making the second round cut for the Senior PGA Championship that was held in Florida, earlier this month Citizen Comment: None Meeting adjourned at 4:55 P.M. __________________________________ Don Miles, Park Superintendent
