Golf Advisory Commission Minutes, June 22, 2021
City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois
Meeting was called to order at 4:02 P.M.
Roll Call: Present: Members: Dave Selkirk, Steve Cheesman, Greenskeeper Matt Miles,
Park Superintendent Don Miles, Director of Parks & Recreation Tony Oligney-
Estill
Absent: Paul Sandborg, Jerry Reynolds, Head Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke
Minutes of May 25, 2021 meeting were approved.
Greenkeeper Report:
Greenskeeper Matt Miles reported:
● The weather flipped around this month with extremely dry conditions taking over the
course. Regular nightly irrigation was just getting us by. Hand watering of dry spots on
the greens during the day had to be done.
● Greens have been gone over with the turf groomer units three different times to control
the lateral growth of the bentgrass.
● All golf course accessories and benches have been placed out on the course since the
operating restrictions have been lifted for the State of Illinois.
● A new bag rack for the parking lot has been ordered. Due to supply shortages the arrival
of the rack could be delayed. The old rack is falling apart and getting splintered.
● The damage on the 16th green is nearly healed to the point of taking the ropes down for
the summer. It has been mowed at regular greens height and is getting sand topdressing
applied to it weekly to help the area level out. Even with the ropes coming down soon we
will not use the area for hole locations until the appearance of the area is back to normal.
Report was reviewed and accepted.
