Roll Call: Present: Members: Dave Selkirk, Paul Sandborg, Jerry Reynolds, Rodney Bunch, Steve Cheesman, Head Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke, Greenskeeper Matt Miles, Park Superintendent Don Miles, Director of Parks & Recreation Tony Oligney-Estill Absent: Minutes of July 27, 2021 meeting were approved with a correction under Old Business. The correction is a single fan was purchased for the patio. Greenkeeper Report: Greenskeeper Matt Miles reported: ● Over seeding of the fairway and rough areas that are thinned out continued. ● Greens were aerified with deep solid tines. Fertilizers and sand were applied and worked in. The greens have been rolled several times and now have recovered. ● Fall fertilizers have been applied to the fairways, tees and areas in the rough around greens and other high cart traffic areas. ● Four new trees have been planted on the course. Two on hole ten to replace trees that have been removed. Two around the golf shop. One to replace a tree in an existing memorial plaque area west of the building. The other is a new memorial tree for Bobby Dennis in the landscape bed in front of the golf shop on the 12 green side. This tree was a donation from the Dew Dusters League. Report was reviewed and accepted. Golf Professional Report: Head Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke reported: ● August Golf o 4,403 rounds played. Record was set in 2020 with 4,789 rounds. o Almost 400 less rounds yet up $3,000 in revenue. o Part time staff is heading back to college and high school. ● 2021 CUBS vs Cards o 88 players competed. Up 12 from last year. o 16% increase in participation. 70% increase since we began in 2015. o $880 in merchandise credit paid out. o Beautiful weather. Lots of additional revenue (green fees, cart fees, food & beverage). CITY OF GALESBURG Parks and Recreation Department Operating Under Council – Manager Government Since 1957 _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Page 2 of 3 ● Next event: Year-End “Super-Ball” on Saturday, October 2nd. ● Miscellaneous Events o All-City “Best-Ball” was a big success. ▪ 46 participants was a little down from last year. o Knights of Columbus Golf Outing had 54 players. ▪ New outing for 2021. ▪ Beautiful day and fun was had by all. o Knox County CRUSH Golf Outing had 120 players. ▪ New outing in 2021. Came from Oak Run GC. ▪ Sold a lot of food and beverages. ▪ This date had a 63% increase from this date in 2020. o Bunker Links is on the verge of reaching 1,000 outing rounds in 2021. ▪ This is a 300% increase in outing rounds since 2015. o Bunker Links is seeing various groups from Peoria and the Quad Cities coming out to play golf and experience the facility. ▪ Could be due to the Golf.com magazine article and the reputation staff is building of the golf course conditions and profession operations. • Passes sold through 9/27/21. The amount listed for 2020 is for the entire year of 2020. o Regular – 56, down 7 from 2020 o Senior – 114, up 18 from 2020 o Associate – 12, up 4 from 2020 o Family – 1, same as 2020 o Minor – 32, up 24 from 2020 o Junior – 10, down 3 from 2020 o Young Adult – 9, up 3 2020 o First Time Season Pass – 43, up 3 from 2020 o Default – 33, up 7 from 2020 • Total cards sold through 9/27/2021. The amount listed for 2020 is for the entire year of 2020. o 10 Round (9 holes) – 10, down 2 from 2020 o 10 Round (18 holes) – 9, down 1 from 2020 o 20 Round – 5, up 5 from 2020 o Default – 2, up 1 from 2020 Report was reviewed and accepted. Old Business: ● The Commission review the Bunker Links Golf Course Policies and Rules of Etiquette that was last updated on June 1, 2015. New Business: • Commissioner Reynolds would like to see Bunker Links replace its existing pull carts with newer pull carts. • Commissioner Reynolds suggested a few ways to combat the water issues on several holes on the golf course.
