Roll Call: Present: Rodney Bunch, Steve Cheesman, Jerry Reynolds, Paul Sandborg, David Selkirk City of Galesburg: City Attorney/Administrative Services Director Bradley Nolden, Director Parks and Recreation Elizabeth Varner, Parks Superintendent Don Miles, Greenskeeper Matt Miles Absent: Head Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke Minutes: July 26th, 2022 minutes were approved with motions from Rodney Bunch and Paul Sandborg. Greenskeeper Report: Greenskeeper, Matt Miles, provided his report, with a brief discussion. Dirt and seed have been added to the cart path approach areas to assist with a smooth transition from turf to asphalt. The greens have had the groomer units go over them in four different directions to reduce grain and organic matter build up at the surface. Three additional water leaks have been addressed. There was discussion on the water leak edge bride by #15. Discussion also included the water system, mentioning that the sprinkler heads are new, and the city water is helpful. Trees have also been trimmed on the course. Golf Professional Report: Parks Superintendent, Don Miles, presented a report from the Golf Professional, Bryan Luedtke. Upcoming events include the Elks Club on Saturday, August 27th. The golf course will be closed until 1:30 p.m. on that day. Rodney Bunch state the Greenskeeper is keeping the course in great shape. Stee Cheesman pointed out that $18,000 was great revenue, while Jerry Reynolds noted how busy the course has been this week with most of the carts being out on the course. Old Business: Rodney inquired about the hours for the golf course and appropriate times for returning a gold cart. Don has discussed this with the Golf Professional. Discussion included being able to only play 9 holes if there was not enough time to return the cart, or having them returned by 8:30 p.m. It was suggested to obtain comparisons at other golf courses before the next meeting. There was discussion regarding the golf scooters. Don explained that there is a lease for the scooters. He thinks it is 100 renters per cycle, per year. The options include: 1) swamp all four scooters with new bikes and restart the lease, 2) Pay $11,500 to purchase new and keep the current cycles, or 3) Purchase the old scooters at $750 each. Director of Parks and Recreation, Elizabeth Varner, will look for the original lease. The scooters have been unique and a great PR stunt. There has been $1700.47 in revenue, with 27 rented in August. City Attorney/Administrative Services Director, Bradley Nolden, suggested getting rid of the scooters since they take up space and revenue. Don will obtain more information. New Business: Brad announced he will be leaving the City of Galesburg at the end of the month and has turned the Golf Advisory Commission over to Elizabeth Varner, Director of Parks and Recreation. Brad looks forward to continuing to play at Bunker Links. Elizabeth also provided information, explaining that although she is not a golfer, she did help start the “Hook a Kid on Golf” program which was once held at Bunker Links years ago. Many remembered that program. Elizabeth wished Brad well and expressed we will all miss him within the City of Galesburg Administration. Everyone thanked Brad for his time with the Golf Advisory Commission and look forward to seeing him at Bunker Links.
