Golf Commission Minutes, October 22, 2024
City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois
Meeting was called to order by Stan Devlin at 4:00 pm
Roll Call: Present: Members: Stan Devlin, Bob Reedy, Rodney Bunch, Jerry Reynolds,
Greenkeeper Matt Miles, Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke, Parks and Recreation
Director Don Miles, and Council Liaison Steve Cheesman
Absent: Dave Selkirk
Minutes: Minutes from the September meeting were approved, with a motion from Bunch, 2nd
by Reynolds.
Reports:
Parks and Recreation Director:
Director Miles reported that the drainage project will be beginning soon and is to be completed
before March 1, 2025. There were a few projects budgeted for 2025 that have been moved to
2024 to reduce the 2025 budget.
Council Liaison:
Steve Cheesman reported that the 10th, 12th, 15th, and 16th greens are unplayable due to the
speed of the greens. He loves the speed of the greens, but he feels the severe slopes need to be
addressed. He is concerned that players will choose not to come back to the course if they do
not enjoy their round due the severe condition on these four greens. If this happens, revenue
could drop, which is a concern.
Greenkeeper:
Greenkeeper Miles reported that.
Greens were groomed, mowed, and rolled several times for all events this past month. A
memorial tree was planted between greens #4 and #7. Fall fertilizer applications have been
applied to tees, fairways, green surrounds, and high traffic areas. Leaf blowing and mulch ing
has already started.
Golf Professional:
Golf Professional Luedtke reported that September rounds came up just short of a record for
the month (75). Revenue was up in most categories. The Year End Superball had 80 players,

new record, with $1,600 in merchandise credit paid out to the winners. Galesburg High School
Invitational had only 76 players this year. Peoria Sand Trappers had 84 players for their return
visit this fall. Galesburg High School Baseball fundraiser had 96 players, which brought in $4,700
in revenue. The Centennial Cup had the top 40 players from the other seven events held this
year. The group played six holes of superball, 6 holes of alternate shot, and 6 holes of best ball.
Super fun event to finish off the centennial season. The Fall Special will be introduced once the
weather starts to turn cooler.
Old Business:
Reynolds asked about the number of golf carts that would be in the rental fleet next year. It
was stated that there would be 52 in the fleet.
New Business:
None.
Citizen Comments:
None.
Meeting adjourned at 4:59 P.M.
