HomeMy WebLinkAboutGolf Commission Minutes 112624 Parks and Recreation Department _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Page 1 of 2 Golf Commission Minutes, November26, 2024 City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois Meeting was called to order by Stan Devlin at 4:00 pm Roll Call: Present: Members: Stan Devlin, Bob Reedy, Dave Selkirk, Greenkeeper Matt Miles, Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke, Parks and Recreation Director Don Miles, and Council Liaison Steve Cheesman Absent: Rodney Bunch, Jerry Reynolds, both excused. Minutes: Minutes from the October meeting were approved, with a motion from Reedy, 2nd by Devlin. Reports: Parks and Recreation Director: Director Miles reported that the drainage project shall be commencing soon per a discussion with the contractor that was awarded the project. The 2025 budget will be approved at the December 2nd Council meeting, which then will start the process of lining up projects for next season. Projects would include more drainage work, cart path resurfacing, and bridge replacements on holes #1 and #3. Council Liaison: Steve Cheesman reported that he just wanted to congratulate the entire golf course staff for another great year. Improvements are continuing and the course keeps getting better year after year. Greenkeeper: Greenkeeper Miles reported that a lot of cleanup work from high winds has been done. Leaf blowing and mulching consumed a great deal of time and effort. Aeration of the fairways with slicing tines was performed. Winterization of the irrigation system was accomplished. Some golf course accessories were brought indoors before freezing. The outside restrooms have been winterized and closed for the remainder of the season. Golf Professional: Golf Professional Luedtke reported that October set a new record for rounds played for the month. Revenue was up in all categories. It was a great month for weather and business . Golf Parks and Recreation Department _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Page 2 of 2 outings were up 18 percent for 2024, with 20 large outings accounting for 1,623 rounds, and bringing in between $50,000 to $100,000 in revenue. Two new golf outings have already been booked for next season. Post 285 Legion Baseball and a fundraiser for the local chapter of the FFA. Tournament play was up 9 percent. Tremendous turnout for the events and the Centennial Cup was a huge success. Already working on merchandise orders for next year, pricing new tables and chairs for the interior of the golf shop. Also looking into a new credit card processor for the golf shop counter. A punch card including cart may be a new item for 2025. Old Business: None. New Business: There was discussion about a cash and credit fee for golf memberships. It was stated that a decision would have to be a City wide process, not just for the golf course. Finance would have the final decision if something like that could be done or not. A discussion about getting an ATM installed in the golf shop was held as well. More information will need to be attained before discussing any further. Citizen Comments: None.
