Golf Commission Minutes, June 24,2025
City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois
Meeting was called to order by Dave Selkirk at 4:00 pm
Roll Call: Present: Members: Stan Devlin, Bob Reedy, Dave Selkirk, Jerry Reynolds, Rodney
Bunch Greenkeeper Matt Miles, Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke, Parks and
Recreation Director Don Miles, and Council Liaison Steve Cheesman
Absent: none
Minutes: Minutes from the May meeting were approved, with a motion from Reynolds, 2nd by
Bunch.
Citizen Comments:
None.
Reports:
Parks and Recreation Director:
Director Miles reported that the budget process is still ongoing, the #3 bridge project is out for
bid requests with a bid opening date of July 16th. The bridge will probably will not be installed
until October, depending on lead times for the bridge to be built. The main parking lot and
entrance road will be seal coated and then cape sealed to improve the appearance of the
parking lot in the coming months.
Stan Devlin asked about the land purchased behind #15 green and what were the plans for the
property. Director Miles stated that the ground will be farmed for the next few years until a
definite plan is decided upon for the use of the land.
Council Liaison:
Steve Cheesman reported that he will be meeting with Representative Dan Swanson next week
to discuss grants for Parks and Recreation and specifically golf courses.
Greenkeeper:
Greenkeeper Miles reported.

• Greens were groomed in multiple directions to improve ball roll.
• Greens are being gone over with spiker attachments to help them vent during the heat and
humidity.
• The dangerous crab apple behind 7 green was cut down to a safe point.
• Fill material was added to the cart path endings to help smooth out the transition.
• Been busy applying products to the turf to keep it healthy and to control weeds.
• New sod areas are now being mowed at playing height. Golfers may play from these areas or
take relief if so needed.
• Sand is being added to the tile runs that have settled. Over time these areas should level out.
• Stump holes were filled with dirt. More material will be added when it settles .
There was a discussion about the settled drainage ditch on hole #1 and the concerns of it being a
bit dangerous for golf carts. Director Miles will contact the contractor that performed the work to
see if anything could be done to rectify the issues, if the issues cannot be resolved internally by the
golf maintenance staff.
Golf Professional:
Golf Professional Luedtke provided a review of the numbers for May, there were 4,366 rounds
played, down from last year, but almost 1,000 above the average for the month, revenue was
up for green fees, carts, and driving range. Merchandise and food and beverage sales were flat.
Outing rounds are up. There were 24 foursomes that participated in the ‘Senior’s Only Super
Ball’, another new foursome won the event with $1,440 in merchandise credit paid out to the
winners. Hosted five outings with one being a new outing. Hook A Kid on Golf junior program
had its last day today with 8 juniors participating.

New Business:
A long discussion about the fees for 2026 were discussed. Daily greens fee rates were adjusted
to make the total price, including tax, an even amount so that golf shop staff are not constantly

having to make change excessively, to keep the check in process running smoothly and
efficiently. Season passes and all other fees were left the same due the concern of being down
51 pass holders from last year. The consensus was to leave pricing flat to retain the pas s
holders we currently have, if pricing is a reason for the reduction in passes sold.
18 Holes- Golf $25.65, Cart $15.00, tax on cart $1.35 total= $42.00
After 1pm Golf $20.65, Cart $15.00, tax on cart $1.35 total= $37.00
After 4pm Golf $16.65, Cart $15.00, tax on cart $1.35 total= $33.00
9 Holes Golf $14.19, Cart $9.00, tax on cart $0.81 total= $24.00
