HomeMy WebLinkAboutGolf Commission Minutes 072225 Parks and Recreation Department _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Page 1 of 2 Golf Commission Minutes, July 22,2025 City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois Meeting was called to order by Dave Selkirk at 4:00 pm Roll Call: Present: Members: Stan Devlin, Bob Reedy, Dave Selkirk, Jerry Reynolds, Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke, Parks and Recreation Director Don Miles, and Council Liaison Steve Cheesman Absent: Rodney Bunch, Greenkeeper Matt Miles Minutes: Minutes from the June meeting were approved, with a motion from Devlin, 2nd by Reedy. Citizen Comments: None. Reports: Parks and Recreation Director: Director Miles reported that the budget process is still ongoing. The bridge project for #3 will be going to council on August 4th for approval. The culvert project to replace the bridge on #1 is very close to the end of the design stage. Working on a plan for the next phase of drainage work to be completed yet this fall. We also have cart path resurfacing that needs to be done this fall as well. The parking lot sealing should happen late next month. Council Liaison: Steve Cheesman reported that he met with Representative Dan Swanson about grants, both state and federal. He mentioned that federal grants are very specific to work being done and state grants are more flexible. Greenkeeper: Greenkeeper Miles reported. • Greens were groomed and rolled in multiple directions to improve ball roll this month. • Been busy applying products to the turf to keep it as healthy as possible through the heat and humidity. Parks and Recreation Department _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Page 2 of 2 • Some hand watering has been necessary to combat localized dry spots. • Course maintenance for all the events and daily play has kept the crew very busy this month. • Work to improve the sand bunkers was started and ongoing. Golf Professional: Golf Professional Luedtke provided a review of the numbers for June. Rounds and revenue were down compared to 2024, but still 300 rounds above average. Hosted the Moneyball tournament with 26 foursomes participating with $1,560 in merchandise credit paid out to the winners. We also hosted both the Women’s and Men’s All-City tournaments, the Bixby Cup, Knox County Elite Volleyball, Iowa PGA Junior Open with 104 kids participating, and the Peoria Sand trappers who have chosen to come back again in the fall for a second event.
