GALESBURG LANDMARK COMMISSION
ERICKSON CONFERENCE ROOM OF GALESBURG CITY HALL

TUESDAY MAY 2, 2023 AT 5:30 P.M.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Suzanne Klohn, Mark Martin, Bob Miener, and Greta Woolsey, 4.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Deb Sugai, 1.
OTHERS PRESENT: None.
Staff declared a quorum was present.
LC-23-0501 Consider Selection of a Chairperson
Member Woolsey nominated Member Miener as Chairperson. No other
nominations were brough forward. The nomination of Member Miener as
Chairperson was confirmed by voice vote.
Consider Selection of a Vice-Chairperson
Member Miener nominated Member Martin as Vice-Chairperson. No other
nominations were brough forward. The nomination of Member Martin as Vice-
Chairperson was confirmed by voice vote.
Approve Minutes of March 7, 2023
Member Klohn made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Member
Woolsey.
Minutes were approved by voice vote.
Discuss Citizen Comment
None.
LC-23-0502 Consider Annual Historic Preservation Awards
Member Martin moved to approve 523 N Chambers St, seconded by member Klohn.
There being no further business, Member Klohn made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Member
Woolsey, approved by voice vote the meeting adjourned at 6:04 P.M.

Galesburg Landmark Commission
Annual Historic Preservation Award
June 6, 2023
Address: 523 N Chambers St
Recipient: Sherry & Jason Kersh
This home was constructed in 1892 by William E. Wolf, who lived in the residence for approximately the
first year. Mr. Wolf was a famous local architect who designed all the residences on the east side of N
Chambers St in this block, as well as the Clark E. Carr residence at 560 N. Prairie St., the John Lescher
house at 534 N. Broad St., the George Lawrence house at 590 N. Prairie St. and the John Fahenstock house
at 591 N. Prairie St. He also designed the First Baptist Church at Cherry and Tompkins streets, the original
YMCA building on North Prairie Street, the former City Hall on South Cherry Street and numerous public
school buildings.
The home is located within the Local Chambers Street Historic District, which was designated by City
Council on November 1978.
This Historic Preservation Award is given to the homeowners in recognition of the restoration of the
existing windows, repairs to the stone entry and exterior re-painting. The chosen color scheme enhances
the architectural features of the residence.
