Discuss Citizen Comment
Landon Hoyt of 591 N Chambers St said that the letter he
received about this meeting was sent via first class mail (not
certified) and that there was a typo on the meeting date.
LC-25-0601 Consider Certificate of Appropriateness, 581 N Chambers Street
Member Miener gave construction tips for the applicants, using his own porch replacement as an
example. He noted that the house was at a reverse grade, that they may be able to save the existing
posts while still securing them, and suggested installing a handrail for safety.
Member Martin advised the applicant to expect more issues to pop up than they think. The
applicant says they have run into that scenario with other repairs to the home. The contractor says
they are prepared to adjust their plan depending on the condition of the underlying supports, as
they have done previously on other porch projects.
Member Treash moved to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness, seconded by Member Klohn.
Roll Call #1
Ayes: Klohn, Martin, Miener, Sugai, Treash, Woolsey, 6.
Nays: None.

AGENDA ITEM: LC-25-0801, Options for Churchill school bell.
BACKGROUND: The Galesburg Historical Society stated they had recently gained possession of
a school bell reportedly from the original Churchill School, located at the southwest corner of
Simmons Street and Broad Street. The bell is still located at 905 Maple Avenue. Based on old
photos of the school building, the bell was not prominently displayed at that time. Staff is
unaware of any historical ties related to the maker of the bell. An idea was floated to display
the bell near the Public Safety Building. Commission members should discuss potential sites for
the bell and options for displaying it.
