Roll Call: Present: Members: Pat Trant, Ann Pennington, Debbie Steinberg, Jane Easterly, City Arborist-Roy Flaige and Director of Parks & Recreation-Tony Oligney-Estill Absent: Millie Allen Minutes of November 9, 2020 where approved. Arborist Report: • The Arborist Report was approved. Old Business: • Based on the updated Standish Park Arboretum map, the Paperbark Maple tree along South Street was removed as it was dead. Arborist Flaig said there were at least three more dead trees within the arboretum. New Business: • The Commission decide to put out the existing update map and date is July 2019. The next update to the map will be done in late fall/early winter of 2021. • Jane mentioned that the library will be having the Big Read again this spring. If the Tree Commission wanted to be a part of that and suggest a tree planting around the library, all that is needed is some coordination between organizations. It is possible that some Dogwood trees (plant looking) may be able to be planted in the locations where previous trees have been taken down. • Pat asked Arborist Flaig to look at a tree by Walsh Av. And Morton Av. The tree may be dying or dead. • It appears the library will be moving to its new location starting in 2021. Once this move starts, the City will need to inventory the trees on the grounds of the new library and add them to the overall tree inventory for the City. • Debbie questioned a few of the identified species in the tree inventory that was completed by the Davey Resource Group on the Knox campus. Debbie and Roy will connect during the spring/summer when the trees are blooming so Roy can take a look to identify the trees and make any corrections, if necessary.
