Tree Commission Minutes, April 12, 2021
City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois
Meeting was called to order by Tony Oligney-Estill at 4:00 P.M.
Roll Call: Present: Members: Ann Pennington, Debbie Steinberg, Jane Easterly, City
Arborist-Roy Flaig and Director of Parks & Recreation-Tony Oligney-Estill
Absent: Millie Allen, Pat Trant
Minutes of March 8, 2021 where approved.
Arborist Report:
• The Forestry Division removed 18 trees in the month of March.
• Some of the trees for the City tree nursery have come in. More will be purchased in the
near future.
• There have been 3 additional requests to plant memorial trees at various parks in the city.
• Tony and Roy drove around northeast Galesburg near the Debbie Klapp Park area to see
if there were needs for more terrace trees. That area of town is fine. Tony and Roy then
went to the Lombard School area of town and determined there were areas on Knox and
Pine Streets along with a few other locations in that general area that would be good to
plant new terrace trees this spring.
• Roy passed the exam for his Arborist Certification.
Old Business:
• For Arbor Day, the City will plant two trees. One will be planted at the Connie Knot Dog
Park in Inbinder Park. The other tree will be planted on Seminary Street just south of
Enterprise Car Rental.
• Roy will attempt to plant some sort of greenery in a couple of the vacant spaces in front
of the library on Simmons Street as part of the Big Read.
