Recreation-Tony Oligney-Estill

New Business:
• Commissioner Steinberg accepted a new job in Pittsburg, PA. As a result, she has
resigned from the Tree Commission.
• The City Arborist position was advertised and opened on June 28th with the position
closing on July 18th. Although the City has received several applications, none of them
reach the level of Arborist. As discussed in the June 14th meeting, if the City hired an
Arborist, there would be zero chance that the Forestry Division would be able to hire a
second full time staff person. With the lack of qualified applicants and no possibility to
hire a second full time staff person, a decision was made to reclassify the Arborist
position to Maintenance Worker with tree experience. There are several current
applicants that meet this position. By reclassifying this position, it also creates a chance
that a second Maintenance Worker could be hired in 2022 if the budget allows. The
position now closes on July 20th. Staff will be contacting qualified applicants to see if
they are interested in the position of Maintenance Worker instead of Arborist.
