New Business:
There have been 4 new trees planted as Memorials. Tom Simkins continues to keep busy
planting trees. There were 20 more trees from the original 70.
It was mentioned to take out the word Arborist in the Mission Statement and to have
Kelli Bennewitz reword this on the website.
Daniel suggested the consideration of advertising the names of the trees at locations, such
as Standish Park to others can learn more about them. Lake Storey has the
biggest Bur Oak that the Tree Commission is aware of currently. Daniel suggested
providing information on size, variety and perhaps events to learn about the trees.
It was also suggested that different varieties of tree be planted due to all the Elm trees
being one type.
The Tree Commissioners expressed that Tom is doing a good job planting trees.
Volunteers are needed to help plant and water. Tom purchases trees from Greenview,
Hoerrs, and Timanda. Commissioners wondered if the city received money from Knox
College, which should go back into Forestry.
