Tree Commission Minutes, March 11, 2024
City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois
Meeting was called to order by Ann Pennington at 4:01 pm
Roll Call: Present: Members: Ann Pennington, Pat Trant, Dan Thompson, Bill Sime, Interim
Parks and Recreation Director Don Miles
Absent: Jane Easterly
Minutes: Minutes from the December meeting were approved, with a motion from Pat Trant,
seconded by Dan Thompson.
Forestry Report:
The Forestry Report was provided for February. Totals from the previous two years were
included, as requested by Pat Trant last month.
Old Business:
The question was asked about the Disc Golf Course taking place at Lake Storey Park. Interim
Director Miles stated the project is moving forward and that Tom Simkins is overseeing the
installation. A map of the course will be distributed at the next meeting to show where it will be
located at the park.
The Arbor Day planting for April 26th will be finalized next month.
The plan for the memorial tree for Gary Johnson is moving forward. A spot will marked in
Standish Arboretum, preferably in the north quadrant . Interim Director Miles will be choosing
the placement.
Dan Thompson asked about the update of the tree map for Standish.
New Business:
Some of the new tree tags have been scratched up by squirrels at Standish. It was decided that
the commission would take a walk through the area after next month’s meeting to inspect the
tags.
