Tree Commission Minutes, June 10, 2024
City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois
Meeting was called to order by Ann Pennington at 4:01 pm
Roll Call: Present: Members: Ann Pennington, Pat Trant, Dan Thompson, Parks and
Recreation Director Don Miles
Absent: Jane Easterly, Bill Sime
Minutes: Minutes from the April meeting were approved, with a motion from Dan Thompson,
seconded by Pat Trant.
Forestry Report:
The Forestry Report was provided for April and May. Pat Trant asked how many trees are on
the removal list. Director Miles stated that there were over 50 addresses on the list.
Old Business:
Ann Pennington asked about the Disc Golf Course at Lake Storey. Director Mies explained that
most of the tree work was completed with just some minor trimming to complete. The last of
the tee pads are to be poured later in the week. Expected completion dat e to be soon.
Since Bill Sime was gone, the commission decided to wait until next month to discuss the tree
tag issues at Standish.
New Business:
Darla Krejci with NOVA Singers stated that next spring’s concert “Come to The Woods” is all about
trees. The concert will be on April 12 th,2025 and she extended an invitation to the Tree
Commission to set up an informational display about what the commission does for the trees of
Galesburg. Ideas discussed were Arbor Day and Project 350. The commission will discuss ideas at
upcoming meetings to decide on how to proceed with this invitation.
