HomeMy WebLinkAboutTree Commission Minutes 101424 Parks and Recreation Department _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Page 1 of 2 Tree Commission Minutes, October 14, 2024 City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois Meeting was called to order by Ann Pennington at 4:00 pm Roll Call: Present: Members: Ann Pennington, Pat Trant, Dan Thompson, Bill Sime, Tom Simkins (Project 350 Coordinator), and Parks and Recreation Director Don Miles Absent: Jane Easterly Minutes: Minutes from the September meeting were approved, with one correction adding Standish Arboretum to the discussion about tree tags, by a motion from Bill Sime, seconded by Dan Thompson. Forestry Report: The Forestry Report was provided for September with no questions or concerns. Tom Simkins gave an update on Project 350. Tom stated that there were 432 trees in the ground to date utilizing 95 different cultivars. Project 350 funds have been exhausted, but there are some funds available for future years. Tom also informed the commission that a grant from The Morton Arboretum has been applied for that could supply funding to plant 500 more trees and hire more staff to assist with maintaining the tree inventory. Old Business: Bill Sime stated that the Library has been informed of the cost for their tree tags. Dan Thompson asked about getting the corrections to the map and tags for Standish Arboretum. Darla Krejci will be at the next meeting on December 9th to discuss the commission’s possibility of having an informational booth at their concert in April. New Business: Reminder that the November meeting has been cancelled. The next meeting will be Monday December 9, 2024. Citizen Comments: None. Meeting adjourned at 4:29 P.M.
