Tree Commission Minutes, December 9, 2024
City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois
Meeting was called to order by Ann Pennington at 4:00 pm
Roll Call: Present: Members: Ann Pennington, Pat Trant, Jane Easterly, Bill Sime, and Parks
and Recreation Director Don Miles
Absent: Dan Thompson
Minutes: Minutes from the October meeting were approved by a motion from Jane Easterly,
seconded by Bill Sime.
Forestry Report:
The Forestry Report was provided for October and November with no questions or concerns.
Director Miles did inform the commission that the City would not be receiving the Tree Equity
Grant for Disadvantaged Communities that was applied for in September.
Old Business:
Bill asked about the Arbor Day tree planting and wanted to confirm that King School was the
designated site for 2025. Director Miles indicated that Bill was correct and that the school
district will be contacted after the first of the year to work out the details. Ann also wanted to
make sure that the Standish tree map and tree tag updating were being worked on. Director
Miles stated that they were on the list of items to be completed.
Darla Krejci was back to update the commission about the proposal to have an informational
table setup at the NOVA Singers spring concert, ‘Come to the Woods’. Commission members
discussed several ideas and will keep brainstorming throughout the coming months. Darla did
mention that she would need information from the commission for acknowledgments in the
concert brochure and for the Facebook post by the March m eeting.
