Tree Commission Minutes, January 13, 2025
City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois
Meeting was called to order by Ann Pennington at 4:00 pm
Roll Call: Present: Members: Ann Pennington, Pat Trant, Dan Thompson, Bill Sime, and
Parks and Recreation Director Don Miles
Absent: Jane Easterly
Minutes:
Minutes from the December meeting were approved by a motion from Bill Sime, seconded by
Pat Trant.
Forestry Report:
The Forestry Report was provided for December. No questions, but just an observation by Pat
Trant he noticed that removals and trims were down compared to last year. Director Miles
stated that the Forestry Division is short staffed, and it depends on when Parks staff can assist,
especially during the summer.
Old Business:
The Standish map was mentioned, just keep it on the front burner so to speak. Discussion was
held about the NOVA Singers concert in April. Multiple ideas about what to present for the
display were discussed. A finalized plan will be decided upon at the February meeting.
New Business:
Pat Trant asked about the Arborist position being filled even though the City was turned down
for the grant that was applied for. Director Miles stated that the Arborist position is currently
advertised, and the position is fully funded in this year’s budget. Miles also stated that a
maintenance worker position is also being advertised due to the transfer by our current
maintenance worker to the Street Division.
