Tree Commission Minutes, March 10, 2025
City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois
Meeting was called to order by Ann Pennington at 4:00 pm
Roll Call: Present: Members: Ann Pennington, Pat Trant, Dan Thompson, Bill Sime, Jane
Easterly, and Parks and Recreation Director Don Miles
Absent: none
Minutes: Minutes from the January meeting were approved by a motion from Pat Trant,
seconded by Jane Easterly.
Forestry Report:
The Forestry Report will be emailed to members later this week. Director Miles told the
commission that Brandon Phillips has accepted the position of Arborist and will start on
Monday March 24th. He will be attendance for future meetings.
Old Business:
Ann Pennington stated that the Arbor Day tree planting at King School has been a process to
get official approval. Director Miles stated that he has not been contacted by any school official
to confirm the site for the planting. Ann will pursue the issue further to get things finalized.
Darla Krejci was in attendance to assist with the final discussion for the informational booth at
the April 12th concert ‘Come to the Woods’. Members watched the slide show that Bill Sime
had setup for viewing to decide which slides needed to be edited out. Discussion was held to
finalize other props and display items. Ann Pennington and Bill Sime will do most of the setup
and tear down, with Dan Thompson bringing his bonsai tree and Tom Simkins bringing a
container tree to have on display as well.
New Business:
Bill Sime asked that the Tree Ordinances be checked to make sure that they are correct with
addition of an Arborist. Bill thought that the ordinances were updated when the Arborist position
was not filled. Director Miles stated that he will look into it.
