Tree Commission Minutes, September 8, 2025
City Hall, Galesburg, Illinois
Meeting was called to order by Ann Pennington at 4:00 pm
Roll Call: Present: Ann Pennington, Pat Trant, Jane Easterly, Dan Thompson, Arborist Brandon
Phillips, and Parks and Recreation Director Don Miles
Absent: Bill Sime
Minutes: Minutes from the July meeting were approved by a motion from Jane Easterly with a
second by Pat Trant.
Forestry Report:
The Forestry Report was presented by Arborist Brandon Phillips. Several comments were made
about how busy the Forestry Division has been the past month. It was also suggested to
separate the trims into two sections, one for terrace trees and one for park trees. Staff will
make the change starting in the new year.
Old Business:
Director Miles gave an update on the plan to revitalize Standish Arboretum. Consultants are
suggesting the removal of approximately a dozen compromised trees along with raising the
canopy of the remaining trees. Replacement trees could be considered, but it will depend on
the final design of the area before this is confirmed.
Ann Pennington passed out information that Bill Sime and herself had worked on to have as
information at next week’s Gateway 2 Community Fair held at Knox College. This information
will be setup alongside the Parks and Recreation information table.
